Oreo Reveals Limited Edition Star Wars Packs with Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and More on Each Cookie (Exclusive)

Welcome to the dark side, Oreo.

Star Wars fans will soon have a new movie treat to munch on. The cookie company has announced a limited edition Star Wars The Oreos, PEOPLE can exclusively reveal, are full of references to the sci-fi movie.

There are two versions of the special cookie sets — one representing the dark side of the Force, and the other corresponding to the light side. But both sets have identical packaging so fans won’t know which “side” they’re on until they open the container.

The packaging pays homage to the show’s rich history and fan base. Illustrations of favorite characters surround the massive Oreo (with red and blue lightsabers sticking out from behind). The character illustrations are original, hand-painted artwork by illustrator Greg Hildebrandt, who is Star Wars poster from 1977. It is below Star Wars and the Oreo logo, the package reads “Dark Side or Light Side Open to Discover Your Destiny.”

Each cookie is imprinted with one of 20 different ‘Star Wars’ characters.

In the dark side packaging, the cookie sandwiches are filled with red cream, while the light cookies have a blue cream filling. Regardless of which side the cookies are on, both versions have “kyber” sugar crystals in each bite “inspired by the crystals found in a lightsaber,” according to a press release.

The differences in dark and light side don’t stop with the fill color. Darth Vader, Darth Maul and stormtroopers are among the characters imprinted on dark side cookies. Luke Skywalker, Yoda and Princess Leia can be found carved into the cookies from the bright side pack. There are a total of 10 different characters in each pack.

Oreo adds a new sour flavor for kids with a sweet and sour punch

Frozen actor and Star Wars superfan Josh Gad has teamed up with the snack brand to tease special edition cookies.

“You may know this as the Millennium Falcon. exactly? Right,” Gad says in a conspiracy theory-like video shared on Oreo’s Instagram on May 4 (also known as Star Wars Day). “But now it’s undeniably a cookie.”

The actor holds an Oreo on the side of the spaceship before the video continues, showing other elements that look like sandwich cookies.

The limited-time bundles will be available for online pre-order on May 30th and available at retailers nationwide from June 10th.

In 2023, the darling cookies teamed up with Nintendo’s famous plumber Mario for a Super Mario themed Oreos platformer.

Similar to Star Wars packaging, Super Mario cookies featured heroes and villains from the video game universe. There were 16 different designs featuring classic characters like Mario and Luigi and famous villains like Bowser Jr. and Goombas.
