American Baptist minister and politician Raphael Gamaliel Warnock was the junior senator of Georgia from 2021. He was a Democrat and began serving on January 20, 2021. Warnock served as senior pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta from 2005. Until 2005, he served as senior pastor Douglas Memorial Community Church.
As a key figure in efforts to expand Georgia’s Medicaid program as part of the Affordable Care Act, Warnock rose to prominence in Georgia politics.

Raphael Warnock lives in Atlanta. On February 14, 2016, after a private ceremony in January, he married Ouleye Ndoye in front of the public. They have two young ones. The couple’s divorce was finally formalized in 2020 after they divorced in November 2019. Ndoye accused Warnock of running over her leg with a car during a verbal argument in March 2020 while the two were going through divorce proceedings; Warnock denied the claim.

On July 23, 1969, Warnock was born in Savannah, Georgia. He was the eleventh of twelve children born to Verlena and Jonathan Warnock, both Pentecostal preachers, and was raised in a public home. During World War II, his father served in the US Army.

To emulate Martin Luther King Jr., Warnock attended Morehouse College after graduating from Sol C. Johnson High School in 1987. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Morehouse College in 1991. He later received his master’s degree, doctorate, and master’s degree in philosophy from Union Theological Seminary, an institution affiliated with Columbia University.
Career
As a driving force behind the Medicaid expansion effort in Georgia, Warnock rose to prominence on the state’s political scene. In March 2014, Warnock organized a protest at the Georgia Statehouse to push lawmakers to approve the Medicaid expansion made possible by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
