Outlander season seven episode four sees William Ransom take on the lead role in the episode as he goes on his mission with the British Army – which has gone horribly wrong. In the episode, James Fraser’s secret son, played by Charles Vandervaart, is tasked with delivering the message but is injured and young Ian comes to the rescue.
We talked to Charles about the episode and talked about everything from the creepy prosthetics required in the episode to the moment when William will find out his true origins. Check out our full chat below.
During the chat, Charles talked about the similarities between Jamie and William, as well as how he and Sam Heughan worked together to create some movement between the two alike. “I’ve started going to the gym more – I don’t know if you’ve met Sam but he’s a big guy!” Charles joked. “I have to become stronger to fill those shoes.

“Sam and I talked a lot about his manners on the show. I don’t want to do too much because William is his… but William spent a lot of time with Jamie when he was a kid. , without knowing that he is his father… Jamie does it with his eyes and little finger while he is thinking.

He also hinted that Jamie and William will of course see each other over the course of the season, adding: “I don’t want to reveal too much about what happens at the end of the season, but we definitely have the shots. together, we understand to know each other at some point.” For those reading the book, here’s more information on how that meeting went.

Charles, who hails from Canada, uses a British accent to play Lord John Grey’s adopted son, and has talked about training his accent. “I’m not good with accents so I learned a lot while I was there,” he explains. “The local dialect trainer was amazing and helped me a lot. I’m from Canada so now I’m done. Greetings from Canada!”
Jamie and Claire haven’t been to Scotland yet
He added: “[It] it shows how strongly William’s identity is tied to the British hierarchy and monarchy, and how painful it will be to realize that his place in that whole structure is immeasurable. legal. So when he found out Jamie was his dad, I don’t think he’d be too excited about it.”
