We finally have our answer! While the murder mystery element of Outlander seasons six and seven – who killed Malva – kept us hooked, the truth finally came out in season seven. Warning, spoilers ahead!

After Tom Christie took responsibility for Malva’s murder to save Claire, it was revealed that it was his son, Allan, who killed his sister after they had an incestuous, abusive relationship. He admits that she planned to confess the baby’s true origins, and when Claire told him to leave Fraser’s Ridge, young Ian took it upon himself to settle the matter and kill him.

To discuss the latest episode, Mark Lewis Jones – who plays Tom – joined our Outlander Insider to tell us all about it. Check out our discussion here…

Speaking to HELLO!, Mark revealed that even though Tom could face the death penalty for the murder of Malva, we’ll see him again on the show. He joked: “I’ll be watching with the ignorant fans, but I know what’s going to happen with Tom, we’ll see him again.” Attractive!

He added: “What we know up to that point, when he sacrificed himself, I think he thought he was going to be charged and found guilty.” I don’t think he has a lofty plan… He honestly sacrifices himself so that Claire can be with Jamie, which is even more remarkable. He has that unconditional love.

Speaking of the big reveal, he continued: “I don’t know what’s going on between Allan and Malva. I don’t think Tom really believes it’s Claire. He was always suspicious of something else, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. What Tom is trying to hide is revealed, there are many skeletons in their cupboard. He’s trying to present this terrible background to this devout, pious family.”

He continued: “I think he’s happy to have them in the back! It was a pleasant feeling for Tom that he didn’t have to deal with all that. His children were a pain to him and brought back a lot of terrible memories, and he did his best as a father, he tried to be the best father. maybe… but their history comes back to haunt them.”
