Owain Arthur, an Irish actor, has a theatrical history.
Owain Arthur is best known for his role as Francis Henshall in the National Theatre’s production of One Man, Two Governors at the Theater Royal Haymarket, where he tutored James Corden. His stage credits include The History Boys (NT), Romeo and Juliet (Royal Shakespeare Company), The Comedy of Errors (Royal Exchange) and Nicholas Hytner’s Birdsong (Comedy Theatre).
And Confession, London Kills, Hard Sun, Hinterland, Babylon, Casualty, Cei Bach, New Tricks and The Palace are among the TV productions in which the Irish actor has starred. He also appeared in a number of films, including White Island, The Patrol, Mr. Nice, Eldra, Higher Grounds and Disney’s upcoming The One and Only Ivan.
Owain Arthur apparently noted his involvement in the next series in an interview at Comic-Con 2022, saying,
“It was one of those situations where I got the role of Durin and I was supposed to play a dwarf and I thought, ‘Yes! I can wear dentures. I have to wear a wig, wear a beard and dress up in all these fantastic outfits.’ And, to be honest, I was pretty critical of it most of the time.”
He continued,
“I honestly adored it and was honored to be allowed to wear it – however uncomfortable and strenuous it was.”
Owain Arthur portrays Prince Durin IV of Khazad-dûm.
Durin IV was the fourth king named Durin. Many individuals, like the previous three, think he is the reincarnation of Durin I due to their uncanny resemblance. He is seen wearing a powerful ring given to him by his predecessor Durin III, and will most likely rule during the War of the Last Alliance. He is the ruler of Khazad-dum, a prosperous underground kingdom.
Owain Arthur’s Durin IV is reportedly featured, saying:
“Durin III, ruler of Khazad-dum and one of the first bearers of the dwarven rings of power, is their father. These dwarves of the Khazad-dûm, or Moria as they are later called, play a significant role in a number of critical wars in JRR Tolkien’s Second Age that the Rings of Power are expected to describe, notably the defeat of the Dark Lord Sauron at the end of the Second Age.”
When asked in an interview with CBS about his portrayal of the dwarves and how he felt about being part of the legendary story, Arthur said it was an “honor”.
When asked how he looks, he said:
“My beard has like 16 parts, and you kind of go, ‘Oh, there it is!’ through different stages of creation. [laughing] Right down to the last few pins, right here [on the cheekbones], that I realized, ‘There it is!’ You are going to work!'”
