Paris Hilton Has Learned the Power of ‘Saying No’ Since Becoming Mom to Baby Son (Exclusive)

Paris Hilton’s new role as a mother has helped her learn the power of saying no.

While talking exclusively with PEOPLE about her upcoming “Be Icon” kitchen and home collection at Walmart, the proud mom, 42, also opens up about how welcoming son Phoenix Barron with husband Carter Reum has given her a new sense of control over her life.

Noting that the many roles she plays — from singer to DJ to author to businesswoman — “are definitely a lot to balance,” Hilton says, “Phoenix always comes first and I’ve learned how to say no.”

“I keep saying no to things because I just want to spend as much time as possible with him and I just don’t want to miss any of these special moments in his life and all these milestones,” she continues.

“He’s my everything, so I’ve always put him first,” Hilton adds of her 8-month-old son.

Hilton and Reum, 42, quietly welcomed their first child together on January 16, 2023 via surrogate. The couple, who got married at the end of 2021, kept the news about their son to themselves for more than a week.

Hilton tells PEOPLE that she and Reum aren’t alone in raising their little boy, with the “Stars Are Blind” singer’s parents — mom Kathy Hilton and dad Rick Hilton — helping out.

“[My parents] they’re just obsessed with him,” says Hilton. “I always call my mom and my sister [Nicky Hilton] for advice, and I’m really lucky to be so close to my family, so I have such a great support group.”
