After obtaining a Bachelor of Education degree, Parshottam Rupala served as the principal of the Municipal Girls’ High School in Hamarpur, Gujarat from 1977 to 1983. Parshottam Rupala served as the chief officer of the Amreli Municipal Corporation from 1983 to 1987. He was elected as the BJP president of Amreli district from 1988 to 1991. In 1992, he served as the district secretary of Amreli. From March 19 to October 20, 1995, Parshottam Rupala served as the Narmada River Cabinet Minister in charge of irrigation and water supply related projects in Gujarat. He was re-elected to the same position from November 4, 1995 to September 18, 1996. Parshottam Rupala was elected as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from March to December 1997. Parshotam was also elected as the Chairman of Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) from June 1998 to October 2001. From 2002 to 2004, he served as the Chairman of a Youth Hostel in Amreli district. Parshotam Rupala has also served as the Chairman of Madad Trust, Kadva Patidar and Gujarat Electricity Board Union. Parshotam Rupala served as a Member of Gujarat Legislative Assembly for three consecutive years in 2002. In 2008, he started serving as a Member of the Rajya Sabha, during which time, until 2010, the Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Commissions were the areas he headed. In July 2010, he was appointed as the Head of the Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice Commission. In September 2010, the BJP handed over the Shipping Ministry Commission to Parshotam Rupala. In August 2012, Rupala was appointed as the Head of the Chemicals and Fertilizers Commission and the Agriculture Commission. In 2019, Parshottam Rupala was appointed as the Member of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from Amreli constituency and concurrently served as the Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare of Gujarat.

- In early 2021, a survey by a foreign NGO showed that India ranked poorly in the 2020 hunger index. A member of the AJP raised the issue in the Rajya Sabha and blamed the BJP government for the poor hunger ranking. Rupala then replied to the AJP member and cited an example that we cannot be sensitive to such reports.
Whenever stray dogs in our village give birth, our women feed them shera. Even though sometimes it bites people too, we feed them shera. So in a country where there is such a tradition and then an NGO comes and gives us such a report (on hunger index) about our children, we should not be sensitive to such reports.”
