Past Lives, Charles Melton and Lily Gladstone Win Big at 2023 Gotham Awards: See Full List of Winners

Past lives is off to a strong start this awards season.

Director Celine Song’s film won Best Feature Film at the 33rd Gotham Awards held in New York City on Monday. The ceremony is billed as “the first major awards show of the awards season that honors extraordinary and groundbreaking voices in storytelling” among independent projects.

Charles Melton won the award for supporting performance in the May December. His co-star Julianne Moore celebrated his honor on Instagram during the ceremony, writing alongside a photo of him on the podium: “He won!!! Congratulations Charles Melton, we love you!!!”

Lily Gladstone, whose Killers of the Flower Moon actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro were also present, awarded for their leading role in the film Unknown country.

Gladstone told PEOPLE on Monday that the “incredible” honor “kind of broke me.”

“I feel like people care about this movie and care about all the themes and this kind of hybrid that we’ve made that ended up being much more narrative and documentary,” she said of Unknown country. “All the early actors just soared and told the story they wanted to tell, and people cared. … This award for me just means paying tribute to everyone who put in all that effort.”
