Everything changes when she meets Neil Giraldo, a powerful rock guitarist whose lyrics give Benatar the exact sound she was looking for. In 1979, Benatar released her debut album, In the Heat of the Night, with Giralda as the opening act. The album was a huge hit, with two hugely successful singles, “Heartbreaker” and “I Need a Lover”.
With her second album, Crimes of Passion, released a year later, Benatar cemented her position as the top female rock singer.
