Return £2.3 billion to the UK
In August 2023, India’s impressive achievements in the ISRO Chandrayaan-3 mission won praise from all over the world. Similarly, British news host Patrick Christie praised India’s successful moon landing mission; however, some of his remarks during the news broadcast sparked controversy. After congratulating India on a British news program, he proposed that India should consider repaying the 2.3 billion pounds of aid provided by the United Kingdom between 2016 and 2021. He also added that the UK should not provide monetary help programs to countries that have their own space. He said,
I would like to congratulate India for landing on the far side of the moon, and now I would also like to invite India to return the 2.3 billion pounds (Rs 24,000 crore) of foreign aid we provided to it between 2016 and 2021. We are also prepared to give them £57 million next year. We should not be giving money to countries with space programs. Generally speaking, if you have the ability to launch rockets on the dark side of the moon, you shouldn’t be reaching out to us. ”
He received a lot of flak from Indians after his video went viral on social media. After facing backlash on social media, he shared a video of himself commenting on Chandrayaan-3 on GB News Channel on X and wrote:
I seem to have pissed off Indian Twitter. “
