Paul Stanely was born Stanley Bert Eisen on January 20, 1952 in midtown Manhattan, New York. His ancestors are Sephardic Jews. Both his father and mother are Jews. Julia, his older sister, was born two years before him. He excelled in the visual arts and thus entered the College of Music and Art in New York, which he graduated in 1970. Despite his talent as a visual designer, he chose performing in ensembles as his profession.

Career

Stanley was part of neighborhood bands Rainbow, Uncle Joe and Post-War Baby Boom before joining Kiss. He then joined Gene Simmon’s Vicious Lester Ensemble. Later that year, in 1973, they were joined by Peter Criss and Ace Frehley, and the trio was christened Kiss. Face makeup and performance costumes are well-known features of the American rock ensemble. Fire-breathing, blood-spitting, instrument-igniting, projectile-firing, levitating percussion and fireworks propelled the band to prominence in the mid-to-late 1970s.

Stanley and Simmons are the only surviving founding members, as the band’s line-up has changed several times over the years. Kiss, Destroyer, Monsters of the Night, Vengeance and Love Gun are some of the band’s most famous songs. Stanley’s Kiss character is the “Star Child”, and he wears a single star above his right eye.

Stanley’s self-titled debut solo record was released in 1978. Stanley sang solo on the title tune for the horror film Shock Music in 1989. On October 24, 2006, he released his second record, Survive to Win. Stanley toured in support of Live to Win in October and November 2006 and released a live recording and Video One Live Kiss in 2008.
