News about Paul Waugh
Following an investigation by the Insolvency Service, the High Court decided that it was in the public interest to dissolve Lighthouse International Group Holdings Trading LLP.
Lighthouse, founded in 2012, claimed to provide mentoring, career development, and business services along with life coaching. On its website it has made a guarantee that the users of its products and services will be able to “optimize the results in their lives, in direct proportion to their investment of time, money and effort”.
According to a review of Lighthouse’s bank accounts, users who signed up for the service made significant payments. From August 2014 to July 2022, Lighthouse made over £2.4 million in sales. Over a four-year period, at least half of that money was given to Lighthouse member Paul Waugh, with smaller amounts given to other members.
The court found that Lighthouse violated the law by failing to provide the bankruptcy office with its business and financial documents during the investigation. As a result, investigators were unable to adequately determine the exact nature of his business activities or corroborate Lighthouse’s testimony at trial that he operated as a “research community” and never launched a successful business.
Incorrect or fraudulent invoices sent by Lighthouse were also detected. According to the accounts presented, there were no assets and liabilities during the nine-year period, which may indicate that there were no transactions.
Lighthouse and its participants have not fully cooperated with the bankruptcy investigation. Insolvency Service lead investigator Edna Okhiria said: Lighthouse and his partners refused to assist us in our investigation and as a result the court did the right thing by dissolving the partnership.
The court called Paul Waugh’s attempts to disrupt our work “unacceptable” and “deliberate” and also praised the professionalism of the investigative team. We will work to have directors or partners terminated in the public interest when we discover evidence that they are not complying with their legal obligations, such as a failure to retain appropriate documents.
On March 28, 2023, Associate Judge Jones dissolved Lighthouse International Group Holdings Trading LLP in the Superior Court of Justice Business and Property Court for the public interest. As the liquidator of the LLP, the official receiver has the legal responsibility to review the actions of all current and former partners as part of the liquidation process.
