Peace Anyiam Osigwe was a Nigerian film director and entertainer. She is called the queen of Nollywood movies. She founded the world-acclaimed Africa Movie Academy Awards.

She was the woman who took the first step towards screening Nollywood films at international film festivals. She directed P-Square’s first music video.

In 2012, the Nigerian government selected her as a Member of the Order of the Federal Republic for her contribution to the entertainment industry. She was a TED scholar.

Peace Anyiam Osigwe was born on the 30th of March to African sage Emmanuel Onyechere Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe (father) and Dorothy Chinyere Anyiam Osigwe (mother) in Nkwerre, Imo, Nigeria but the year of her birth is not given anywhere so it is difficult to tell her age.

Her mother is an Officer of the Order of the Niger for her philanthropic activities in Nigeria.

She had 7 brothers including Michael who was killed in 2014. He was the Chief Coordinator of Osigwe Foundation Anyiam Osigwe.

Michael was also the Director, Consul General of Malawi in Nigeria and the African Institute for Research and Leadership Development.

She graduated in law and political science from Oxford Brookes University. Her religion and zodiac sign are unknown. After graduating, she founded the African Film Academy.

The awards ceremony is the most recognized award for Africans in filmmaking. She resigned as AMAA Executive Director at the 10th edition.

She launched the AfricaOne initiative in 2015 to celebrate Africans in the entertainment industry.

She became the National President of the Association of Film Producers in 2020, making her the seventh to hold the post succeeding Mr. Ralph Nwadike.

She was the initiator of the 100 films project, whose goal was to improve the quality of films produced in Nigeria.

She worked on building the capacity of film producers in the country as president through seminars and training.

As an author, she published the magazine “Cliks”, which was written for the black population in England. She started her television career with her talk show, Piece off my mind.

This show focuses on people’s reactions to social problems. She spoke about the African caste system, child trafficking and women’s equality in film and television. She received the 2019 African Film Pioneer Award at the African Film Festival.

Peace Anyiam was married but later separated from her husband.

She died in the hospital of St. Nicolas in Lagos on January 9, 2023 after she fell into a coma on January 7, 2023.

Her family confirmed the news of her death. The family said in a statement,

“The Emmanuel Onyechere Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe clan in gratitude to God and in the belief that God is good and that all that He does is good and in accordance with His divine will, pattern and plan, announces the departure to eternal glory of our illustrious beloved daughter, sister, aunt and great aunt, mrs. Peace Maria Ogechi Anyiam-Osigwe (MFR).”

“Our president, Peace, has passed away. As of Saturday, it was reported that he was in a coma on Saint Nicholas Day. But now her family has confirmed her transition. May the memory of her life be a blessing. Rest in peace dear Peace.”
