Not only were Bastianini and Zarco involved in the crash, but so were three other Ducati riders: Gresini Ducati’s Alex Marquez, VR46 Ducati’s Fabio Di Giannantonio and VR46 Ducati’s Marco Bezzecchi. With a suspected broken ankle and broken hand, Bastianini was also taken to hospital after being taken to a medical facility, but on a scooter rather than an ambulance. As a result, none of Ducati’s works machines continued to operate.

Bagnaia, who was born in Turin, Italy, started riding Minimoto bikes at a young age and won the European MiniGP Championship in 2009. In 2010, he made his debut in the Mediterranean Championship before the GP 125 with the Monlau Competición team, finishing second. In 2011, he competed in the 125cc class at the Spanish Championship and won one of the races.
With a race win and two second places in seven races on the Honda NSF250R during the 2012 CEV Moto3 season, he finished third in the championship behind Lex Márquez and Luca Amato. Bagnaia joined the VR46 Riders Academy and remains a member.
