Pete Davidson Interview: What Men Want Set Visit

What Men Want is a new comedy starring Taraji P. Henson (Empire, Hidden Figures) as a sports agent who gains the power to hear men’s thoughts. Produced by Will Packer (Girl’s Trip) and directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), the film sees Henson’s character, Ali, use her new ability to get the upper-hand on several of the men in her life.

When Screen Rant visited the Atlanta set of What Men Want earlier this year, we observed a scene between Pete Davidson’s Danny, another agent at the agency, and Josh Brener’s Brandon, Ali’s assistant. While watching several different takes, it was obvious the actors are encouraged to ad-lib and play around with the script. And in the case of Pete Davidson, that means saying whatever hilarious thing comes to mind – no matter how raunchy. What Men Want is an R-rated comedy – as you can see in the recently released red-band trailer – and that suits Davidson just perfectly.

So it appears to us that you have the freedom to ad lib lines, and not just the ones that will be added later that are in your head. Are you enjoying that?

Yeah, I just really haven’t read the script is why. I’m just like, ‘What’s the ballpark of the story?’ And then I just–hopefully it works. Yeah… but I heard it’s great!

Did you go out for the role of the assistant?

I went out originally for the rule of Brandon, but uh, I can’t act. So like, six lines, Danny. And I was like, cool.

What attracted you to the film?

Uh, Adam Shankman is dope, Taraji’s dope, Max is dope. So pretty much, dopeness.

Do you want to do more movies?

I would love to do more movies. I would love to continue to be number 15 on a call sheet for the rest my life. I would love to be on hold for no f–king reason, in Atlanta, for the rest of my life. This sounds like a great idea.

Do you think they’re going to keep the Giselle’s p—y line?

I don’t know but I’m going to keep saying it so… If it’s the only cut they have, then… Also, I feel like it’s a fact and everybody knows that. So it’s not like I’m saying something shocking.

That’s the key to what makes Tom Brady great?

Yes. I think so. Definitely not the years of training or working out. Strictly p—.

Do you consider yourself a big sports nerd like your character?

Yeah I f–king love sports. Except hockey’s only good live cause I can’t really follow the puck, and baseball is boring as f–k but I like it still.

With you and Tracy in this movie do you think SNL will push it?

Oh God, I hope not. No, uh, yeah, I’m sure they’ll push it. I’m sure Tracy will be on the show or whatever. Like I said, I am not in this so I don’t know how I can possibly help. But, yeah, maybe.

What’s the best part about being in this film?

It’s really, I guess, so that my grandparents can die happy. They’re like, ‘Oh wow! He’s in a movie!’ And then they can die and not know what a drug addict I am. All right, thank you everybody! Have a good night!
