Melinda French Gates, her daughter Phoebe Gates and Phoebe’s boyfriend Arthur Donald joined George and Amal Clooney at The Albies!
French Gates, Phoebe and Donald made a grand entrance at the September 26 event, which George, 63, and Amal, 46, have been hosting in New York since September 2022. French Gates and Phoebe’s appearance also follows their attendance in 2023. (French Gates shares Phoebe and Jennifer Gates with ex-husband Bill Gates.)
The event shines a “shielding light on the brave defenders of justice who are at risk – sending a message to human rights abusers that the world is watching,” according to the Clooney Foundation for Justice website. This year’s Albies, named after Judge Albie Sachs for his role in ending apartheid in South Africa, welcomed a host of celebrity advocates.
The 60-year-old philanthropist wore a crimson, pink and black floral sleeveless dress with layered ruffles on the skirt. The dress featured a V-neckline that showed off her T-shaped diamond necklace. French Gates and Phoebe, 22, wore their hair down and completed their look with subtle glamor makeup.

The Stanford University graduate wore a camel brown dress with a mock neckline that created a pleated effect on her bodice. Her sparkly dress was form fitting and covered her bronze pointy shoes.
Phoebe also posed with her boyfriend (25), one of Paul McCartney’s grandsons. Donald arrived at the event in a smart black tuxedo and black bow tie. He is the eldest son of Mary McCartney and her ex-husband, TV producer Alistair Donald.

The pair originally sparked dating rumors in October 2023 after Phoebe shared a photo of them sharing a laugh together on her Instagram account.
“Paris on film,” she captioned the video. In January 2024, they were also photographed together for the premiere of the film Feud: Capote vs. Swans at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
Months later, Phoebe gave a sly nod to their relationship in a June prom photo diary for Nylon. She shared candid snaps from her big day, including smiling photos with Donald and her parents. She also posted the pictures on her Instagram account, simply captioning them: “Graduated.”

Since graduating, Phoebe, who uses her platform to advocate for women’s rights, has been gearing up to launch a new tech company and fashion startup, Phia.
On September 18, she was honored with the “Rising Reproductive Freedom Champion” award at the 55th anniversary celebration of Reproductive Freedom for All in Washington, DC.
Phoebe called the award “an incredible honor that I accepted as a recognition of the responsibility to continue and as an incentive to do more.”
