Joy Behar Recalls Seeing Men’s Penises on ‘Traumatizing’ Childhood Beach Trips

Joy Behar reflects on “traumatizing” childhood nudity experiences.

In the episode from Friday Viewladies gathered for their daily hot topic discussion when they brought up Bradley Cooper’s recent admission that he doesn’t mind being naked in his house — which also includes his 6½-year-old daughter Lea, who he shares with ex Irina Shayk.

Speaking about her own childhood, Behar (81) then recalled what she witnessed at the age of 10.

“When I was a child, I never saw anything but a tub [my parents would] take me to Coney Island, and these people would be carrying those loose drawers, and Mr. Happy would fall out,” said the native New Yorker, per Entertainment Weekly. “It was so traumatizing for me.”

Behar added that she has also seen naked women in New York beach bathrooms.

Her co-hosts then chimed in with their own take on nudity in their households.

“I don’t like walking around naked,” Sara Haines said. “I’m not naked often. I don’t cover up immediately between showers and lotions when my kids run in, because I’ve made a conscious effort not to be ashamed of their bodies and to remind them that it’s science.”

When asked by Sunny Hostin what her children witnessed, The Good morning America alum, 46, said: “They’ve seen everything I can see when I’m putting the lotion on. They’re not looking at me.”

In November 2023, Behar announced the imminent release of a new retrospective book.

A press release shared with PEOPLE by publisher Regalo Press gave a little insight into what readers can expect.

The currently untitled project will showcase, according to the announcement, “Behar’s acute powers of observation and her ability to vividly recreate the minute details and fleeting moments that make up a lifetime.”

Her book is expected to be published in late 2024 or early 2025 and will cover topics such as relatives, hair, erections, bullies and romance.
