A United Airlines passenger praises her pilot’s unexpected kindness.
Tanya Stamos was flying from San Francisco to Houston on Friday, September 13, when the plane had to divert to New Mexico due to an on-board medical emergency, she shared on TikTok the next day.
In the video, she explains that the pilot of her flight did something unusual when passengers were forced to wait for hours at the airport after an unscheduled landing.
“My flight from SF to Houston today definitely did not go according to plan,” Stamos writes. “We had an emergency landing in New Mexico at 4:00 pm due to a medical emergency with a passenger. Prayers to the passenger who was taken away by the ambulance when we arrived. Then we were unloaded from the plane and now we are finally leaving here around 11 pm.”

She continues: “Our pilot is absolutely amazing. He felt so bad about the situation that he ordered 30 pizzas from a local pizzeria and had them delivered right to our exits, then made sure all 150 passengers ate before making a plate for himself.”
Photos of the scene show the pilot stacking pizza boxes at the door. Another clip shows him serving slices of fresh pies to passengers holding paper plates.

In the comments, users praised the pilot for his selfless act.
“I like to hear stories about people who go above and beyond.” Kudos to him!” one person wrote, followed by another who said, “that’s so great.”
Another commentator echoed: “It’s an unfortunate situation, but kudos to the pilot.”
In a statement shared with PEOPLE, United said, “We love to see our pilots go above and beyond for our customers when the unexpected happens. The flight was diverted due to medical issues with the passenger, and we have been working to quickly get customers back on the road to Houston.”

This is not the first time a pilot has done something sweet for his passengers.
In 2022, United Airlines Captain Josh Duchow comforts a 6-year-old girl named Lena after she loses a tooth on a flight home to South Carolina from New York.
“I slept on the plane. Mom woke me up… and we went to pick up our bags,” said Lena Good morning America at that time. “And I said, ‘Mom, mom, I think my tooth fell out’.”

After seeing how upset Lena was when she couldn’t find her tooth, the pilot decided to write a special message to the Tooth Fairy.
“Dear Tooth Fairy”, he wrote on a piece of paper. “Leni lost a tooth on the flight to Greenville. Please take this note instead of her tooth,” he added, signing off Captain Josh.
