Pit Bull Rescue Dog Sworn in as a Kentucky Police Department’s First ‘Paw-trol Officer’

A rescue dog from Kentucky is ready to “paw-troll!”

The dog, a pit bull mix named Bolo, recently became the first “paw control officer” at the Hopkinsville Police Department (HPD).

Bolo was sworn in by Hopkinsville Mayor James R. Knight Jr. at the Nov. 7 city council meeting, and the City of Hopkinsville shared a video of the ceremony on its Facebook page.

Psić, who was the last to take the oath of office at the meeting, received applause – and many “aws” – when he approached the mayor.

After taking the oath — “I, Bolo, do solemnly swear to support the citizens of the city of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, while serving as a paw control dog” — the pup signed it with an ink-colored paw print.

“Many of you have been keeping up with Bol — the pit bull mix who stole the hearts of Hopkinsville Police Department personnel during a visit to the Christian County Animal Shelter,” the city wrote. “Well, on Tuesday during the Hopkinsville City Council meeting, Bolo officially became part of the team and was sworn in by Mayor JR Knight as HPD’s first Paw Control Officer! We can’t wait to follow this sweet pup’s career on the Force.”

HPD shared the news with its announcement. Along with a photo of the pup rocking his new badge, the department wrote, “Last but not least, Bolo was sworn in alongside his ‘co-workers’ as HPD’s Paw Control Dog! Congratulations everyone!”

Bolo arrived at the department in early October as part of an adoption event at the nearby Christian County Animal Shelter.

His temporary visit quickly became a permanent residence.

“When the Hopkinsville Police Department started the #PawtrolWednesday program this week, they didn’t think it would lead to a new member of the HPD family. But then Bolo arrived and stole everyone’s hearts,” HPD wrote on Facebook.

Bolo “showed up for a one-day visit and eventually found his furry home,” the department added.

“So, the plan was every Wednesday, we would bring one of the dogs from the shelter here to the police department, let them interact with people, give them some advertising on Facebook, social media and hopefully help them find a home,” he said. said HPD Police Chief Jason Newby in a Facebook video.

But after Bolo, the first Pawtrol Wednesday puppy, appeared, the “plan” fell apart. “Surprisingly, everyone fell in love with him,” Chief Newby said.

“So when it came time for him to come back that day, they put him in his cage, he fell headfirst and squealed, and everyone’s heart melted, so we decided to adopt him,” he added.

Since the police department became a home for the rescue dogs, agency staff members have been spoiling Bolo with treats, pizza crusts and cookies, according to Chief Newby.

Bolo also read to children at the local library with Officer Marfilo for “Hometown Heroes storytime.”

“He’s always happy,” Marfil said of the cute pooch. “Now I’m not a morning person, but when I come to work, he’s happy and it makes my day, just to see him smiling and happy.”
