Piyush Jain

Piyush Jain is an Indian businessman who made headlines in December 2021 for tax evasion. Over Rs. Rs 257 crore was recovered from his house during raids by the Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence (DGGI) and the Income Tax department in Ahmedabad.

Piyush Jain was born in 1969 (52 years old; as of 2021) in Kannauj Chipati, Uttar Pradesh. As of 2021, he lives with his family in Anandpuri, Uttar Pradesh. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Master’s degree in Chemistry from Chhatrapati Shahhuji Maharaj University (Kanpur University), Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

Parents and siblings

His father Maheshchandra Jain worked in a soap company in Mumbai. His elder brother Amrish Jain is known as the “King of Compounds” (a mixture of chemicals found in gutka and perfume) of Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh. His grandfather, Phool Chand Jain, was in the garment printing business.

Piyush is married and his wife is one of his partners in the business. He has two sons Pratyush and Priyansh. His daughter Neelanasha is a pilot.

Profession

After graduating in chemistry, he joined his father’s soap business with his brother. He started working for the company as a salesman and later began producing soap and detergent compounds. After several years of experience, he began producing edible compounds for various tobacco products. Gradually, he started a perfume business in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh and later, he expanded his business to various cities in India and abroad. He owns over 38 companies in India and two companies in the Middle East. He owns a chemical manufacturer called ‘Odochem Industries’ in Uttar Pradesh, which he started with his brother.

dispute

In October 2021, the Ahmedabad Attorney General detained four trucks carrying rotis worth lakhs of rupees, but the truck drivers carried bills not exceeding rupees. 50,000. After detailed investigation, it was found that fake bills were produced in order to evade GST. On December 22, the DGGI team raided the Shikhar Pan factory and Ganesh Road Carriers (the trucks were from the same transport company). Subsequently, DGGI started investigating the owner of Ganesh Road Carriers Praveen Jain and recovered Rs. One crore rupees from the office. The team then conducted an investigation against Praveen’s brother-in-law Piyush Jain and Amrish Jain on December 23, 2021. Subsequently, during the investigation at Piyush Jain’s house, a large amount of cash was recovered. The DGGI team called Income Tax department officials during the course of investigation. The search of Piyush Jain’s bungalow took more than 120 hours. During the raid, over Rs. Rs 257 crore was counted using 16 currency counting machines.

Apart from cash, documents of his properties (located in over 30 posh locations in India and Dubai), 25 kilograms of gold and 150 kilograms of silver were also seized in the raid. He was arrested by Kanpur police on December 27, 2021 and was lodged in Barrack No. 15 as per the Covid regulations of Kanpur jail.

  • Piyush depicts the life of a middle-class man with his neighbors, who often travels on his motorcycle. According to his neighbor,

    he [Piyush Jain] Used to travel on foot and on scooter. He would wear very simple clothes to events. He stays out of other people’s affairs and keeps a low profile. So we never suspected that he had so much cash at home. “

  • According to various media sources, his home does not have any CCTV cameras and only very few people visit his home. The walls of the house are covered with wires, and at night, electricity is flowing in the wires, and no one can easily enter the house without his permission.
  • He used to keep a low profile in public and kept a Toyota Qualis and a Maruti car at his bungalow in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.
