A small plane that took off from Washington Dulles International Airport landed on a freeway shortly after takeoff
A plane that took off from Washington Dulles International Airport on Friday afternoon made an emergency landing on a highway in Northern Virginia.
According to flight tracking site FlightAware, the single-propeller Cessna 208 was headed for Lancaster, Penn. but was only in the air for 2 minutes before the diversion.

Local news outlet WUSA9 reports that a small plane made a hard landing on the Loudoun County Parkway with seven people on board.
Stan Little, CEO of Southern Airways, released a statement saying there were no injuries and that “all passengers are alive and well,” WUSA9 reports.
Emergency personnel from Loudoun County are on the scene.
AND Dulles Airport press release shows that at about 12:50 p.m. they received reports of a “departed aircraft that landed off airport property on a nearby road” and identified it as Southern Airways Express Flight 246.

The Virginia Department of Transportation also confirmed the details on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, writing, “There is actually a small plane on the road blocking all lanes of Loudoun County Pkwy at Arcola Mills Dr.”
At the time of publication, the aircraft is still standing on the edge of the highway, but some traffic has been restored. The region is currently experiencing snowy conditions and is under a winter storm warning until Friday night.
