Police Find Cell Phone of Chicago Woman Who Went Missing After Traveling to Bahamas for Yoga Retreat

A cellphone that belonged to a missing Chicago woman who traveled to the Bahamas for yoga has reportedly been found.

Taylor Casey, 41, was last seen on Wednesday, June 19, in the Paradise Island area, the Royal Bahamas Police Force announced on June 21.

Organizers of the certified yoga retreat Casey attended, Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat Bahamas, also confirmed her disappearance after she failed to show up for class on June 20.

On Wednesday, June 26, Chief Superintendent of the Royal Bahamas Police Force Chrislyn Skippings said Casey’s cell phone was found in the ocean, according to CNN and a local media outlet Nassau Guardian.

According to local independent newspaper CSJ Report, Casey’s friend Sara also said the cell phone was found.

“We have conducted an extensive investigation into this matter,” Skippings said at a CNN news conference. “Our priority is to find Taylor and find Taylor in good health.”

Skippings did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The officer said police were using drones, search and rescue dogs, divers, as well as checking CCTV cameras amid the ongoing investigation, CNN reported.

Skippings added that authorities have been working with Casey’s family, as well as speaking with yoga retreat attendees, media reports said.

Speaking to CBS News, Casey’s mother, Colette Seymore, said, “Oh my God, I miss Taylor. Taylor shouldn’t be missed as far as I’m concerned.”

“I heard from Taylor on Tuesday, that was the last time Taylor sent me pictures of Taylor in the Atlantic Ocean, saying, ‘I miss you, mom. I miss you. Look, I’m on the beach,'” Seymore said of the last conversation with daughter on June 18.

“Taylor always calls me, we stay in touch. Taylor sent me beautiful pictures from the Bahamas, Taylor in the ocean,” Seymore added to ABC News. “We want Taylor home. We need Taylor in our lives. We miss Taylor.”

The media reports that Seymore has now traveled to the Bahamas to help search for her daughter.

“I believe Taylor is in danger because she was eager to share her yoga retreat experience with others upon her return,” Seymore said in a statement posted on the “Find Taylor Casey” Facebook page earlier this week.

“Taylor would never disappear like this,” Seymore insisted.

Casey has been a yoga practitioner for 15 years. Attending the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat was part of her “long-term goal of deepening her practice,” her family said in a statement.

Casey is described as a light-skinned black woman with a slim build. She is approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighs 145 pounds, has brown hair and brown eyes, and has natural hair often covered in duraga.
