International shooter Poonam Pandit, a candidate for the Congress party in the Bulandshahr Siani seat, was soundly defeated by the BJP candidate. Shooter Poonam has won a gold medal at the international level, but she lost the election and had her bail revoked because of it.
The Congress chose Poonam Pandit as its candidate in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly Elections of 2022 (UP Election 2022). Poonam Pandit is a professional shooter who first gained notoriety through the farmer’s movement.
She ran as the Congress candidate for the Siyana seat in Bulandshahr against Devendra Singh Lodhi of the BJP and Dilnawaz Khan of the RLD. Poonam, who represented India and won the gold medal at the world level, was demolished in the election arena.
Poonam Pandit received just 1% of the vote overall for this position, therefore her deposit was also lost. This seat was won by the BJP candidate. Dilnawaz of the RLD came in second, followed by Sunil Kumar of the BSP. Out of a total of 2 lakh 51 thousand votes, Poonam received only 2888 votes, placing her in fourth place.
