Pop Culture Jeopardy! Host Colin Jost Struggles for Answers in Impromptu Trivia Game: 'Am I Going to Get Fired?'

Colin Jost was put to the test Today show!

In the episode of December 3 Today, the Saturday night live star sat down with Savannah Guthrie to discuss her new hosting Danger of pop culture!. Explaining that the show’s contestants are playing to win a $300,000 cash prize, Jost emphasized how intense the game can be.

“People were obviously very serious about it,” he revealed. “There are some exes Danger! — regularly Danger! — the contestants were mixing. I honestly thought this was harder, as usual Danger! an observer. I thought Pop culture Danger! it was harder than usual Danger!.”

“I’m generally not that good with trivia,” he admitted earlier in the interview. “I feel like I know a lot of things, but when I’m pressured to say it, as you know, it’s a difficult thing.”

Moments later, Guthrie surprised Jost with a pop culture quiz, and Jost was taken aback.

“Does Michael Che write here?” he joked, referring to his own SNL teammate.

Starting the game, Guthrie read the first tip: “This horror rap group is best known for the ’90s anthem, ‘Jump Around.’

Jost immediately sighed and put his hand over his face. “Hip hop,” he said, shaking his head, to which Guthrie replied, “What’s… House of Pain. Not all of them are difficult.”

After correctly answering Luke Skywalker’s real father in the star wars — Darth Vader — and naming Destiny’s Child as a girl group with Michelle Williams, Kelly Rowland and Beyoncé, Jost lost his streak.

“This ’90s arm dance was the first thing in New York clubs,” Guthrie said.

After correctly guessing The Macarena (the answer was Vogue), the comedian joked: “Am I going to get fired?”

The latter question brought even more pressure when a video was shown of his wife Scarlett Johansson asking the country of origin of her last name.

“How much were you planning to set me up for this?” he jokingly asked the crew. “What is… Denmark. I had to get it, didn’t I?”

“She knew [you] got it wrong,” laughed Guthrie. “It’s, ‘What’s… Sweden,’ Colin!”

“Oh my God, because they came from Sweden?” he asked. “It’s a crazy — I can’t say the word — loophole. That’s not fair. It’s a technicality.”

He added that on Danger of pop culture! there are judges who can “strike down things that were absurd, such as that.”

When Guthrie teased him asking if he would return to Today more recently, he said, “Not now! Not now that they’re actively making fun of me!”
