Power Universe Expands to Add New Prequel Series Origins — Find Out Which Fan-Favorite Characters Are Returning

There is more to come from Power world.

STARZ announced Wednesday that it has begun development on another one Power previous series, Originwhich will explore “the origin story of the fan-favorite characters Ghost and Tommy,” written by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora, according to a press release.

Origin is the fourth spinoff from the original series — which aired from 2014 to 2020 and starred Hardwick, Sikora and 50 Cent. He joins Book of Power II: The Spirit, Book of Power III: The Rise of Kanan and Power Book IV: The Force.

Origin – led by Sascha Penn, showrunner Raising Kanan — will investigate Power universe in a “fresh way”.

“As we approach our 10th anniversary Power it’s amazing to witness the immense connection our fans have with Power space,” Kathryn Busby, president of programming for STARZ, said in a statement. “We can’t wait to see how Origin will further develop this dynamic franchise while bringing fresh, exciting and expansive storytelling to our audiences.”

Details of the upcoming series remain unknown, but the Ghost and Tommy storylines have already been expanded since the conclusion Power in 2020

Both Book of Power II: Spirit and Power Book IV: The Force pick up after the event of Powerwith The ghost following James “The Ghost” St. Patrick’s son, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr.), who is “struggling with the new world order” because his father is dead and his mother, Tasha (Naturi Naughton), is facing murder charges — which Tariq committed, thanks to the encouragement of Kanan (50 Cent).

IN Force, Tommy moves to Chicago after putting New York “in his rearview mirror forever” following the deaths of Ghost and his love, Lakeisha Grant (La La Anthony). He “intends to become the biggest drug dealer Second City has ever seen,” but finds himself “lost,” as Sikora previously told PEOPLE.

“He lost his brother, Ghost. He lost the woman he loves, Holly, and their unborn child. He lost Keisha. His mother doesn’t exist,” the actor said ahead of the film’s premiere. Force 2022 “We’ve always seen Tommy with something. We’ve seen what he hates and what he loves — and he’s lost both. He’s lost every relationship he’s had. Everyone [is] against him and he burned many bridges.”

4th season The ghost is set to air later this year, while Force currently filming the third season in Chicago. It is not clear whether Origin will trigger any of the three ongoing spinoff series’ conclusion, as Raising Kanan is also currently filming its fourth season in New York.

“I’m really, really, really happy with Season 4. It’s still early, but I believe it’s going to be our best,” creator Penn told PEOPLE after the shocking Season 3 finale Raising Kanan.

Raising Kanan sees a younger version of 50 Cent’s character navigating his bumpy entry into the drug world while juggling the monopoly his mother, Raq (Patina Miller), has already built, and his relationship with his father, Howard (Omar Epps), a detective.

“We always felt like Kanan was a product of the people he was around growing up — the notion of that takes a village. And so each season is a cornerstone in terms of who Kanan will eventually become when fully realized by 50 Cent in the original Power,” Penn said of how the previous installment builds Power universe. “Each season we try to understand more and more how he becomes what he has become. So I think this season is another part of that story.”
