dispute
Excluded from 2018 Asian Games
In 2018, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) excluded Prachi Choudhary from the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta because she did not participate in the national training camp. The AFI claimed she was called to a state concentration camp; however, she denied this. She subsequently filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court asking the AFI to be excluded; however, when the AFI discussed its selection policy with the Supreme Court, her appeal failed in the Supreme Court. In an interview, talking about what happened after a long injury layoff, she said:
I am fully recovered now. But in 2017 I did not participate in any competitions. My goal is to get back to training camp so I can focus on the big events. There is no doubt that Tokyo is the target. But there are new players emerging, and everything is still uncertain. “
Suspended after failed drug test
On December 30, 2019, she was examined by the Doping Control Officer (DCO) of the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) after her competition at the Netaji Subhas National Sports Center Institute in Patiala. She tested positive for a metabolite of the anabolic steroid oxandrolone and was subsequently temporarily suspended from NADA. She was suspended pending a hearing by a disciplinary panel and deemed ineligible for four years due to the presence of a non-specified substance in the sample. In December 2021, the Anti-Doping Appeals Panel (ADAP) found that her anti-doping rule violation (ADRV) was unintentional because the source of the banned stimulants in her body could not be traced, thus mitigating her penalty. ADAP reduced Plachi’s suspension from four years to two years, making her eligible to return to competition on December 30, 2021. This enabled her to compete in the Commonwealth and Asian Games qualifying events, as well as other domestic and international events. In an interview, talking about mitigating penalties, she said:
This is a big day for me because I have never doped, but I have been cleared. I have considered doping at times in my life. What I am today is all because of my work and commitment. ”
