- In April 2021, when the entire country was hit by the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and most Indian states were facing severe oxygen shortages, Prahlad was filmed threatening to hit a man for pleading with him to provide an oxygen concentrator for his mother who was diagnosed with the coronavirus. The incident took place on April 22 when Prahlad was attending a public hospital in Damoh, his constituency, and the patient’s attendants surrounded him and complained about the lack of oxygen and medicines in the hospital. In a video that went viral on social media and landed the MP in trouble, Prahlad was heard saying to a man, “Aisa bolega to do khaega.” The man used the offensive term while informing Prahlad about the oxygen crisis. When Prahlad said “Do khaega”, the man replied, “Hum khaenge ji, humari mataram to vaise hi khane ko padi hain. Batao kya karein?” “Shall I share oxygen and mannitol with you today?” (Is there anyone who does not give you oxygen?) Prahlad asked. Manna kiya sir, sirf 5 min k liye chala sir cylinder. 36 He is very kind, can he help me? (Yes sir, the oxygen cylinder they gave me only lasted five minutes, where can I find an oxygen cylinder now?) the man said in a collapse. Prahlad was severely criticized from all sides for his “shameful behavior” towards the grieving man.
