On May 16, 2023, the Supreme Court committee headed by CJI Dr DY Chandrachud, Sanjay Kishan Kaul, KM Joseph, Ajay Rastogi and Sanjiv Khanna passed a resolution recommending the elevation of Prashant Kumar Mishra to the rank of Supreme Court judge. India, and will become a judge of the Supreme Court of India on May 19, 2023.

Profession
After registering as a lawyer, Prashant started practicing before the District Court of Raigarh, the Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur and the Chhattisgarh High Court at Bilaspur. He has acted in a variety of cases across different legal sectors ranging from civil to criminal and writ. In January 2005, he was appointed Senior Advocate by the Chhattisgarh High Court. Subsequently, he served as the President of the Chhattisgarh Bar Council for 2\BD years. He was subsequently appointed as a member of the Rule-making Committee of the Chhattisgarh High Court. He has also been nominated as the Chancellor by the Executive Committee of Gurugram Siddas University, Bilaspur. However, he failed to retain this position. Additionally, he is an ex-officio member of Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
Prashant served as the Attorney General of Chhattisgarh from June 26, 2004 to August 31, 2007, and was later promoted to the Attorney General of Chhattisgarh. On December 10, 2009, Prashant Kumar Mishra was appointed as a judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court. Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra serves as the Acting Chief Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court from June 1, 2021 to October 11, 2021. He was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on October 13, 2021 (the third Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh after bifurcation). He was sworn in by Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh.
Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra also serves as the Chief Patron of the Andhra Pradesh Legal Services Institutions under Section 6 of the Legal Services Institutions Act, 1987.
On May 16, 2023, the Supreme Court Committee consisting of CJI Dr DY Chandrachud, Sanjay Kishan Kaul, KM Joseph, Ajay Rastogi and Sanjiv Khanna passed a resolution in the Supreme Court recommending the appointment of Prashant Kumar Mishra as the Judge Bench of the Supreme Court. On May 19, 2023, he was sworn in as a Supreme Court judge, making him the first judge in Chhattisgarh to be promoted to the Supreme Court. Although Allahabad Chief Justice Putinque Diwak is also from the Chhattisgarh High Court and is senior to Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, the collegium of the Supreme Court held that Mishra Justices are more “worthy” of being appointed to the Supreme Court.
