Pravin Sawant faced difficulties in his childhood. He wanted to pursue a career in sports. He loves archery, but the training center is 45 kilometers away from his village. He is a ward boy in an orthopedic hospital. He worked the night shift to collect training fees. He used to work the night shift and set out early in the morning to go to the training center, which was an hour and a half away. At the age of 21, he quit his job as a caregiver and joined the police force as a constable. He joined the police force under sports quota. Mahindra Kadam runs a drug store near the hospital and is a good friend of Pravin Sawant. He asked Praveen to train his daughter in archery. But Praveen did not have enough space to train. Mahindra Kadam and his wife gave him one acre of sugarcane land. He has no money to buy sports equipment. Pravin’s mother and wife sold their jewelery for Rs 2 lakh to support his dream. With everyone’s support and hard work, he established an archery academy named Drushti Academy in Vadpatta area of Satara. He completed the six-week NIS course as it was a mandatory requirement to qualify as a coach. On May 6, 2022, Praveen Sawant participated in the 2022 Sulaymaniyah Asian Archery Cup. In an interview, he told his life story,
I made my first bow out of bent wire from an old umbrella,” he said. “In Wai, 25 kilometers from my village, there is an archery academy. But the bus cost 35 rupees for a round trip and I had no money. It’s heartbreaking, but what can you do? I was a player myself. I had dreamed of representing India. However, poverty and lack of resources ruined my dreams. ”

Ever since I joined the police force, I had always had a feeling deep down in my heart that I wanted to do something for my country. When I competed in the Olympics, I knew I had to do something for India. ”
- World champions Aditi Swami and Ojas Deotale trained under the guidance of Pravin Sawant. Praveen’s 17-year-old student Aditi Swami became the youngest-ever world champion in the senior category when she won the women’s compound title at the 2022 Asian Games. While Ojas Deotale won the men’s compound title at the age of 21, becoming India’s first individual champion at the tournament.
Pravin Sawant’s indomitable spirit turned a sugarcane farm into an archery academy, producing an Indian compound archery world champion.
