Pregnant Woman Order Groceries on Her Phone; 1 Day Later, 99 Bunches of Bananas Arrive at Her Door (Exclusive)

  • Alexandra “Alle” Karol decided to order groceries while she and her husband were shopping for things for the children’s room
  • At that time, the mom-to-be noticed that the price of the order was higher than usual, but she didn’t pay too much attention to it
  • It was not until the next day that Karol realized that she had ordered 99 bundles of bananas

Alexandra “Alle” Karol and her husband Spencer Blatt were shopping for their baby’s nursery when the mom-to-be realized she needed to order a week’s worth of groceries. The 34-year-old Brooklyn, New York resident decided to multitask by pulling out her phone and simply re-ordering her last order from July. She checked out in a total of three minutes and was proud of herself for being so efficient.

After checking out, Karol noticed that the order was a little more expensive than usual, but dismissed it, thinking that she might have ordered a really nice lamb for dinner that week.

It wasn’t until the next day, when the apartment bell rang to inform her that the delivery had arrived, that she realized what had gone wrong.

“Usually my order would be about two bags of groceries. I opened the door and there were about fifteen bags in the hallway,” Karol tells PEOPLE exclusively. “I scowled, yelled for Spencer, and ran back to the apartment.”

“At first I thought I had ordered my usual order more than once,” she adds. “But then Spencer looked at the bags. He turned around and said, ‘Alle, what did you do? These are just bananas.’ ”

At this point, the mother-to-be says Blatt thought the situation was hilarious. But she, on the other hand, was in tears. She explains that out of all the banana bags, only one contained her actual grocery order — so she accidentally reordered a very small order, along with the fruit.

“I felt terrible that I wasted all those bananas,” she says. “I didn’t think I would be allowed to return them or donate them because of food contamination rules. I felt sad that I had taken them from the monkeys and now they would be lost.”

During the accident, Blatt took out his phone and started recording because he wanted to show their family what happened. He sent the video to Karolina’s sister, who posted it on TikTok. The video has since gone viral with over 145,000 views.

The couple was surprised by how helpful, kind and funny people were in the comments. While Karol anticipated the criticism, she noticed people offering banana bread recipes and suggesting that FreshDirect should have called and confirmed.

“No one blamed the pregnant woman, which was nice,” he adds.

In the end, Karol went to meet her friend, leaving Blatt to deal with the bananas. He contacted FreshDirect’s customer service team, who, according to Karol, were “so nice.” That night they picked bananas.

“Spencer kept one bunch and then we actually ran out later that week, so I think we should have kept two,” Karol says with a laugh.
