A PRIMARY school was locked down and swarmed by armed police this afternoon after a man allegedly armed with a knife tried to attack a parent in the playground.
Parents surrounded Lilly Lane Primary School in Manchester and “screamed” for their children who were locked inside for around 45 minutes.

The suspect tried to attack the parent during an argument before pulling out a knife at around 3pm at the school in Kenyon Lane in the Moston area, the Manchester Evening News reported.
No one was injured, and officers say they have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with the afternoon’s drama.
Pictures and videos show police vehicles arriving with blue lights on and crowds of parents waiting outside locked school gates.
One mum, who said her daughter was locked in the house for 45 minutes, said: “My partner went to pick my daughter up from school and he wasn’t there for long.
– He came back and said that they wouldn’t let her or the students in and that the police were there.
“I got there and there were armed police and everything.
“The doors were locked, the school was locked and nobody was being allowed in or out.”
“There were hundreds of parents waiting outside and we were all locked out.
“I panicked and asked what was happening and that I wanted my daughter.
“I was screaming that my child was locked up and they just kept telling us that all the children were safe.”

“About 45 minutes passed, my child was locked inside. It was terrible.
“My daughter asked what was going on and had to walk past huge police officers with guns.”
Another mother, who was also locked outside the front door, added: “I was told a man was chasing another man through the playground with a knife.
“When I arrived, all the doors were locked and the teachers were all over the playground.”
A Greater Manchester Police spokesman said: “Officers were called to reports of a man with a knife at a primary school in Kenyon Lane, Moston at around 3pm this afternoon (Thursday 22 January 2025).
“Armed policemen quickly came to the school and as a precaution the school was closed.
“Fortunately, no one was injured.
“A 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted assault.
“The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.”
