Prince Harry branded ‘hypocrite’ after flying on fuel-guzzling private jet owned by oil heir to attend Katy Perry gig

PRINCE Harry and wife Meghan were branded “eco-hypocrites” overnight after traveling to a Katy Perry concert on the Texas oil heir’s private jet.

The preachy environmentalists flew from California to Las Vegas and back on a Gulfstream jet with friends Cameron Diaz, her rocker husband Benji Madden and actress Zoe Saldana.

Royal expert Angela Levin told The Sun: “He founded the charity Travalyst which was about not using private jets. He is still their protector. I think he should be fired.”

A few hours later, Harry’s brother William flew to Singapore on a BA commercial flight.

Ms Levin said of the Sussexes: “They think they’ve become so grand they wouldn’t even dream of a normal flight.

»They have all these rich friends who pay for it. It’s worse than ‘do as I say, not as I do’ because he’s patronizing a charity.

“William was extremely welcome in Singapore, which must have annoyed Harry and Meghan. It is precisely because of this behavior that we call them eco-hypocrites.”

In 2019, Harry helped launch Travalyst, “a bold global initiative with the ambition to change the impact of travel forever”.

Last year, he warned the UN that climate change is “destroying our planet” and that “our world is on fire.”

The 2009 Gulfstream jet he took to Las Vegas is co-owned by oil scion Michael Herd, whose Texas grandfather Bob died in 2019.

It emits around two tonnes of CO2 an hour — compared to the average Briton who produces 8.2 tonnes a year.

Herd and billionaire wife Whitney Wolfe, CEO and founder of dating app Bumble, recently got up close and personal with the Sussexes in their hometown of Montecito, California.

The Texan was seen near Meghan and Harry, who were bored at the final show of Katy Perry’s residency in Vegas, where they hung out with the queen of ballads, Celine Dion.

The group landed back in Santa Barbara on Herd’s jet around 1 a.m. Sunday.

A witness said: “Whitney went after Meghan when everyone was getting off. Meghan was walking to the car, but Whitney ran up to talk to her. It was like she decided to show Meghan that she was ‘the best’.”

Harry’s gas-guzzling outing comes after it was announced that he will not be traveling to the UK to celebrate his father King Charles’ 75th birthday next Tuesday.

Herd confirmed the trip with the royal family, saying: “We just went to dinner and to see Katy’s last show. They are good people.” Asked about criticism of Harry and Meghan taking a private jet, he said: “I have no comment, I’m not them.”

The Sun has also contacted representatives for Harry, Meghan and Bumble.

Harry has previously defended the use of private jets.

He stated in 2019: “I’ve spent 99 percent of my life traveling the world doing commercials. Occasionally there has to be an opportunity based on unique circumstances to make sure my family is safe.”

WILLS FLIES BA TO GREEN AWARDS

By Matt Wilkinson

PRINCE William caught a commercial flight for today’s eco-awards in Singapore — after banning VIP guests and finalists from private jets.

He arrived on Sunday afternoon after flying around 7,000 miles on a 13-hour overnight British Airways flight from Heathrow.

Wills wore a tie made from recycled plastic as he gave a speech at a conference on the illegal wildlife trade. Its Earthshot Awards — set up to find ways to save the planet — have already handed out £10 million.

Projects include turning seaweed into recyclable food packaging and growing coral.

A further £5m will be awarded tonight at a ceremony which will include a video address from TV wildlife expert Sir David Attenborough.

Kensington Palace said it had “worked very hard to ensure that everyone traveling to Earthshot flew commercially” and was “compensating for travel in other ways”.

William opened the conference by saying he was “very sorry” that wife Kate was unable to attend as she was helping 10-year-old Prince George with his exams.

The Prince of Wales also took part in a dragon boat race against a team led by the British High Commissioner.

He said: “We won, so I’ll take it. The High Commissioner planned it very well.”
