Prince Harry in surprise visit to Queen’s final resting place at St George’s chapel at Windsor before flying to Germany

PRINCE Harry made a surprise visit to the Queen’s final resting place at St George’s Chapel today on the one-year anniversary of her death before heading to Germany.

Harry is in the UK for an aerial visit – but is hundreds of miles away from his brother Prince William and father King Charles as the royal family mark the festive day.

The Duke of Sussex, 38, looked serious as he left Windsor Chapel today – after flying to London yesterday for the WellChild Awards without Meghan Markle.

The trip is the first time Harry – who lives in the US with Meghan and their two children – has returned to the UK since the coronation of his father King Charles in May.

It was thought to be a short visit with no time for him to meet members of The Firm – with Harry pictured in Germany this afternoon ready for the launch of the Invictus Games tomorrow.

But today he surprised royal fans when he was spotted leaving Windsor Castle, visiting the chapel where the Queen is buried.

It is learned that several members of the royal family paid their respects separately in the chapel this morning.

Last year, the queen was laid to rest in the chapel of St. George with her mother, father, sister and Prince Philip.

And that’s where Harry and Meghan got married in 2018.

Harry was seen leaving St George’s Chapel alone today – while his father King Charles was in Scotland with Queen Camilla.

The Duke has not been invited to spend the anniversary with company – with a palace insider claiming his dad Charles has “no time in the diary” to see his son.

Charles and Camilla were joined today by the late Queen’s niece and nephew, Lady Sarah Chatto and the Earl of Snowdon.

Meanwhile, William and Kate today joined a private church service at St David’s Cathedral in Wales, commemorating the life of Queen Elizabeth.

They then met with members of the local community in the cloister.

And they are not believed to have seen Harry – who visited London last night for the WellChild Awards – with William carrying out his royal duties in Bournemouth 100 miles away on Thursday.

Last night, Harry paid tribute to the Queen at the event – saying his grandmother was “looking down on us, happy to be together”.

One year since the queen’s death…

Speaking at the awards, Harry said: “As you know I was unable to attend the awards last year because my grandmother passed away.

“As you also probably know, she would be the first person to insist that I come be with you all instead of going to her.

“And that’s exactly why I know exactly one year later that she’s looking down on us tonight, happy to be together – continuing to portray such an amazing community.”

Prince Harry rushed to Scotland last year to be with his grandmother, but tragically missed the chance to say goodbye to the 96-year-old.

Since her death, Harry has continued to live in the US with wife Meghan Markle and their children Archie, 4, and Lilibet, 2 – returning to the UK only a few times.

The Duke has already returned to his High Court battle, along with his father’s coronation on May 6 this year.

It comes after the king recorded a message and posted a favorite photo of his mother.

Charles, in words written and spoken on audio, at Balmoral Castle and recorded on Thursday, said he “remembers with great fondness her long life, her dedicated service and all that she meant to so many of us”.

He said: “I, too, am deeply grateful for the love and support that has been shown to my wife and me this year as we do our best to be of service to all of you.”

The formal color photograph chosen by Charles was taken by Cecil Beaton and shows him aged 42 in 1968.
