Prince William Had the Best Reaction When a Baby Bit His Finger in Singapore

Kate Middleton is known for charming children during royal engagements, but Prince William is clearly a favorite with the little ones too!

The Prince of Wales, 41, arrived in Singapore on Sunday ahead of the third Earthshot Awards ceremony on Tuesday. His first stop was Jewel, a nature-themed entertainment and retail complex connected to one of Changi Airport’s passenger terminals. Prince William was greeted by enthusiastic crowds and took time to meet those who came to see him – including a baby named Albane Costa.

As can be seen in video shared by Liza Dicoy for X, the little one clutched William’s finger as the royal family spoke to the parents and said their child was “very cute”.

“How is he sleeping? Is he sleeping well? Good,” asked the Prince of Wales.

While baby Albane continued to hang on to her arm — and even tried to put the royal finger in her mouth! — Prince William said with a laugh: “I need my finger. I need my finger back!”

Prince William has revealed a significant family reason why Kate Middleton is not joining him on his trip to Singapore

Royal photographer Chris Jackson, who is on the ground covering the visit to Singapore, joked on Instagram that the 8-month-old “loved it” [to] (and wouldn’t give it back! 🤣)” hand of the Prince of Wales.

Of course, Prince William has long been a pro at all things parenting as he and his wife have three children: Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.

The exchange of a royal father with a baby could be a competition for Princess Kate! The Princess of Wales, 41, has made early childhood development a key priority of her royal work (most boldly through The Royal Foundation’s Early Childhood Centre’s Shaping Us campaign) and has previously hinted that being around babies makes her homesick.

“It makes me very thoughtful,” Princess Kate told the Infant Mental Health Project in Copenhagen during her solo tour of Denmark in February 2022. “William is always worried about meeting children under 1. I come home saying, ‘Let’s have one more.’ ”

Prince William emphasized that sentiment during their joint visit to Scotland that May, where he and Princess Kate met a baby named Saul at St. John’s, where young students learned about empathy by watching a baby.

“Can you get my wife out of here before it gets dark?” William joked about Kate.

The Princess of Wales breaks with previous precedent by not attending the third Earthshot Awards ceremony as she has done in previous years. King Charles’ eldest son launched the 2020 Earthshot Prize to promote impactful approaches to the world’s most pressing environmental challenges, with plans to award prizes until 2030. Kate supported William at the inaugural awards ceremony in London in October 2021 and again in Boston in December 2021 in 2022

PEOPLE knows Prince George has school exams this week and his mother has stayed at home in Windsor to support him.

While Prince William traveled alone to Singapore, his family came first. Speaking at the United for Wildlife summit on Monday morning, the Prince of Wales cited George’s school schedule as the reason his wife was not with him.

“Catherine is very sorry she can’t be here,” he said. “She’s helping George through his first set of big exams.”

William, who is the current heir to the throne, added that his last visit with Kate was “unforgettable” 11 years ago. On this occasion, the royal couple visited Singapore on behalf of their late grandmother Queen Elizabeth during her Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

Prince William has been on the move since landing in Singapore on Sunday, kicking off the first Earthshot Week. The first Earthshot Week aims to increase engagement around the Earthshot Prize, and Prince William kicked it off with his visit to the “Rain Vortex” — the world’s largest indoor waterfall — at The Jewel on Sunday.

On Monday, Earthshot partners including Bloomberg LP, YouTube, Arup and the Singapore Fashion Council welcomed 120 young leaders from across Southeast Asia to a masterclass on how to help drive climate action in their local areas, the Earthshot Prize said. Officials teased that “there will be more coming soon.”
