According to Julien’s Auctions, Diana selected the blouse from a rack of clothes given to her by her ex Vogue fashion editor Anna Harvey.

In her book Dress for Diana, Elizabeth Emanuel wrote that a client left a mascara stain on a custom dress, prompting the Emanuels to use blouse materials. “When she saw our blouse on the rack, she fell in love with it, asked who made it and was referred to us,” she wrote, according to the auction company.

Emanuel sold the piece, which appeared in the magazine’s February 1981 issue vogue, from her archive in 2010, and was previously exhibited at Kensington Palace in an exhibition from 2017 to 2019.

The auction will take place from December 14-17 in Beverly Hills and on the auction website, with the fourth day entitled “Glamour, Grace and Grandeur”. The auction company describes it as “a collection of some of the greatest attention-grabbing, star-making style icons of all time, created by some of the most revered and respected designers in fashion and Hollywood history.”
