Priscilla Presley Attends ‘Priscilla’ Venice Premiere with Cailee Spaeny, Sofia Coppola and Jacob Elordi

Priscilla Presley posed with the team that brought her love story to life Priscilla.

The ex-wife of the late Elvis Presley appeared at the 80th Venice International Film Festival on Monday.

She walked the red carpet with her Priscilla director Sofia Coppola and actors Jacob Elordi and Cailee Spaeny. (The film A24 was granted an exemption from the SAG-AFTRA interim agreement amid the strike since it was shot in Canada at a non-AMPTP studio.)

Based on Presley’s 1985 memoir Elvis and me, Coppola’s new film, in which Elordi, 26, and Spaeny, 25, play Elvis and Priscilla, tells their story from her perspective.

At a press conference for the film Monday, Priscilla, 78, called Elvis “the love of my life” even as she spoke about her decision to divorce the icon in 1972.

“It’s very difficult to sit and watch a movie about you and your life and your love,” she told reporters. “I think Sofia did an amazing job, she did her homework. We spoke several times and I really gave everything I could for her.”

Priscilla didn’t initially appear at the podium alongside Coppola, Spaeny and Elordi at the press conference, but she took the microphone when asked what aspects of the film moved her the most.

“It was a lifestyle that was so difficult for me and I think any woman can come to terms with that. But it didn’t damage our relationship. We still remained very close,” Priscilla recalled of how she and Elvis, who has passed away at the age of 42 in 1977, resolved their relationship after the divorce.

“And of course, we had our daughter, and I made sure he saw her all the time. It was like we never left each other,” she added.

Elsewhere at the press conference, Coppola, 52, said she could put herself in Priscilla’s shoes when it came to meeting Elvis as a teenager. “I can go back to those years and remember being in love with an older guy and a rock star,” she told reporters. “I was just imagining it from her point of view.”

The director said that she was interested in Priscilla’s story in terms of “opening up about how she found herself and [how she] then she emerged to find her own identity.”

“That really hit me,” Coppola added. “And also [expectations] a woman of that generation to be completely fulfilled with a successful husband, a beautiful home and a child. If they wanted any expression beyond that, it was a struggle and it was not expected.”

The synopsis of the film published on the official website of the Venice Film Festival reads: “Through Priscilla’s eyes, Sofia Coppola tells an unseen side of the great American myth in Elvis and Priscilla’s long courtship and turbulent marriage, from a German military base to his dream world estate in Graceland, in this deeply a vivid and ravishingly detailed portrait of love, fantasy and glory.”

Priscilla comes one year after director Baz Luhrmann’s 2022 film Elviswhich starred Austin Butler as a musician and Olivia DeJonge as Priscilla in a story that also focused on Tom Hanks as Elvis’ manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

The Venice Film Festival marked Presley’s second red carpet appearance since the death of her daughter Lisa Marie Presley in January. Before arriving at the Venice Film Festival, Priscilla attended the premiere of Netflix’s new animated series in Los Angeles at the beginning of March. Agent Elvis.

Priscilla it’s in theaters on October 27.
