Priscilla Presley gives Sofia Coppola her flowers ahead of the release of the new biopic Priscilla.
In behind-the-scenes footage shared by A24 on Thursday, Coppola and Priscilla exchanged words about the genesis of their working relationship, with the former touching on how she considers the star and her late ex-husband Elvis “American legends” and “our version of royalty.”
Priscilla directed and written by Coppola, with Jacob Elordi taking on the role of Elvis and Cailee Spaeny as Priscilla.
“When I read Priscilla’s memoir, I was amazed at how unusual, wild her life was,” Coppola says in the clip, prompting Priscilla to quip, “It’s a long story.”

Coppola went on to note that “we know so much about Elvis, and it was very important to me to show the story through Priscilla’s experiences.”
For Priscilla, the decision to work with Coppola on the project came from a deep-seated respect for her writing and filmmaking style.
“I have seen all her films. And her sensitivity, her understanding of women, she really puts her heart and soul into it,” she said. “I would never do this with anyone else.”
During the filming of the film, Coppola emphasized her love of “immersing herself in someone else’s world”. “You can really relate to all the things she’s been through. The fun in it, but also the struggles and the isolation,” she added of Priscilla’s life.
