Madonna’s Celebration Tour Postponement Helped ‘Further Enhance’ Her Show — Which Includes More Than 40 Songs

Get excited, Madonna Stans! The Queen of Pop’s celebratory tour is only a few days away.

After a recent health scare and subsequent tour postponement, the “Vogue” singer will kick off her highly anticipated Celebration Tour on Saturday, October 14 at the O2 Arena in London.

According to her tour’s musical director, Stuart Price, Madonna, 65, has made a “full” recovery and has used a three-month layoff following a health scare to ramp up her performance.

“Madonna has very high expectations of how much effort people will put into something,” Price told BBC News. “It’s very uncompromising – but she’s just as hard on herself. So when she took a break, that break created an opportunity to further improve the show. And I’m sure the opportunity [for her] focusing on being 100% well was also very well received.”

The superstar was hospitalized at the end of June due to a “serious bacterial infection”. In September, a source told PEOPLE that she was back at work and getting ready to start touring.

“She returned to rehearsals last Monday. She is so happy to be back on stage and feeling strong. She is working closely with her long-time collaborators, Jamie King and Stuart Price, to fine-tune the performance,” the source said, adding that the string of performances is ” the icon’s most ambitious tour ever”.

This will be the first time in Madonna’s career that she does not have a band with her on stage.

“There are live musicians who perform in different parts of the show,” Price explained. “But what we realized is that the original recordings are of our stars. Those things can’t be replicated and they can’t be recreated, so we decided to accept that.”

In the set list, fans can expect more than 40 songs from her decades-long career — and some special surprises that will hint at her impact on pop culture.

“The biggest hit doesn’t have to be a song,” he said. “It can be a wardrobe, it can be a video or a statement.”

Fans can also expect archival footage and studio footage to help tell her story.

The story will reflect the evolution of her career, “from being a young woman in New York and getting to know the scene, all the way to motherhood, spiritual awakenings and all the ups and downs. The story was really, really compelling.”

After her six concerts in London, Madonna will visit Copenhagen, Barcelona, Paris, Milan and others. Wrapping up 2023, Madonna will begin the North American leg of her tour with three shows at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and two concerts in Washington before returning to the stage in 2024.

Madonna first announced the Celebration Tour in January, telling fans the concerts would mark the 40th anniversary of her career and pay tribute to New York, where she first rose to stardom.

“I’m excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes of giving my fans the show they’ve been waiting for,” she said in a press release at the time.
