Priscilla Presley Wipes Away Tears After Watching ‘Priscilla’ at Venice Film Festival

Priscilla Presley was in the spotlight at the Venice Film Festival on Monday.

When Presley (78) attended the world premiere of Sofia Coppola’s new film Priscilla — biopic based on Presley’s 1985 memoir Elvis and me — in Venice, the matriarch of the Presley family became emotional after the screening.

Video split into Twitternow known as X, the author The Hollywood ReporterThe film’s Alex Ritman showed Presley wiping tears from her eyes as the audience applauded her, Coppola, 52, and the film’s stars Cailee Spaeny and Jacob Elordi, who play Priscilla and Elvis Presley, respectively. (The A24 film was awarded a temporary SAG-AFTRA contract in the midst of the strike since it was shot in Canada with a non-AMPTP studio.)

Coppola could be seen hugging Presley as Spaeny, 25, and Elordi, 26, looked on. In total, the film received a seven-minute standing ovation from the audience in Venice Diversity.

Presley also appeared emotional when she attended a press conference for the film earlier in the day and called Elvis “the love of my life” even as she discussed her decision to divorce the icon in 1972.

“It’s very difficult to sit and watch a movie about you and your life and your love,” she told reporters. “I think Sofia did an amazing job, she did her homework. We spoke several times and I really gave everything I could for her.”

Priscilla didn’t initially appear at the podium alongside Coppola, Spaeny and Elordi at the press conference, but she took the microphone when asked what aspects of the film moved her the most.

“It was a lifestyle that was so difficult for me and I think any woman can come to terms with that. But it didn’t damage our relationship. We still remained very close,” Priscilla recalled of how she and Elvis, who has passed away at the age of 42 in 1977, resolved their relationship after the divorce.

“And of course, we had our daughter, and I made sure he saw her all the time. It was like we never left each other,” she added.

Priscillawhich tells the story of Priscilla and Elvis’ love story and marriage from Priscilla’s perspective, comes a year after director Baz Luhrmann’s film Elvis the film was a box office success, starring Austin Butler as the legendary performer. Olivia DeJonge appeared as Priscilla in that film.

Priscilla it’s in theaters on October 27.
