dispute
Allegation of disproportionate assets
Activist HC Prakash had lodged a private complaint with the Lokayukta against Vijayanagar MLAs M Krishnappa and Priya Krishna in December 2012. He claimed they had amassed a fortune that amounted to a staggering 10,000% of their known sources of income. The complaint was filed not only against Krishnappa and Priya Krishna, but also against Krishnappa’s wife Priyadarshini and another son Pradeep. Acting on a court order, Lokayutta police took over the case and conducted raids on properties owned by Krishnappa and his family based on Prakash’s complaint. In 2014, it was concluded that the allegations lacked credibility. Following the raid, an extensive investigation by Lokayota police revealed that Krishnappa and his family’s assets were actually 31% lower than their known sources of income. Police further discovered that the family had acquired the properties through their real estate business, which they had been in for more than thirty years. Accordingly, the Special Lokayukta Court on November 15, 2014, accepted the police report as a ‘B report’ and effectively closed the case due to insufficient evidence to frame valid charges against them. An interesting aspect of the entire situation is that complainant Prakash did not attend the ten consecutive hearings. The Special Lokayukta Court in its order dated November 15, 2014, had concluded that the total transactions, including purchases and sales, carried out by the Krishnappa family from 2001 to 2011 were approximately Rs 5,747 crore, while their movable and immovable properties were worth approximately Rs 5,747 crore. Approximately Rs 68.53 Crore.
Allegations of land grabbing
In 2016, Hemanth Raju filed a case before a special court accusing Priya Krishna, Sarva Mangala Builders and Developers and 51 others of encroaching on 279 acres of land belonging to the Ranganathaswamy temple in Srirangapatna under the Muzrai division.
A mysterious woman who calls herself mother
In 2017, it was reported that a woman aged around 35-40 years frequently visited the West District DCP office and claimed that M Krishnappa was her husband and Priya Krishna was her son. She often said that she had been married to Krishnapa a long time ago. According to police, the woman is a resident of Rajarajeshwari Nagar. She had been coming to the DCP office frequently for the past two years, asking them to send Krishnappa and Priya Krishna to her. In the past two years, she has successfully extracted the phone numbers of several police officers, including MN Anucheth, DCP (West). Police often received calls from the woman late at night. Officers who spoke to her suspected she was drunk most of the time and suffered from some form of mental illness.
Charged with unlawful assembly
According to the 2023 election affidavit, an FIR was filed against Priya Krishna for participating in an unlawful assembly. He was charged under sections 141, 143, 290, 336 and 149 of the IPC at Sathanur police station in Kanakapura, Karnataka.
