At age ten, her son Amartya was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC), a chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that causes inflammation and ulcers in the large intestine. Her relatives told police they had received a note in which she wrote that she would take her own life at Gokak Falls. She accused Australian authorities and Sydney neighbors of harassing her, which forced her to take the drastic step of suicide.
