Priya Vasudev Mani Iyer, better known as Priyamani, is an Indian actress and former model who appears primarily in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Hindi films.

She received her education at Sri Aurobindo Memorial School, Bangalore and Bishop Cotton Women’s Christian College of Law. She excelled in dance and sports as a student and was actively involved in extracurricular activities. She started modeling for print ads while still in school. Priya models for brands like Kancheepuram silks, Erode silks and Lakshmi silks. When she reached 12th grade, Tamil film director Bharathiraja introduced her to the film industry. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology by correspondence.

Priyamani belongs to a Hindu family from South India. Her father, Vasudeva Mani Iyer, is an entrepreneur and owns a plantation business. Priyamani is rumored to be in a relationship with her Raavanan co-star Prithiviraj.

Profession
Priyamani started her acting career in 2003 with the Telugu film Evare Atagaadu. She next made her debut in the Malayalam film industry with the film Sathyam. This movie failed. She made her acting debut in the 2004 Tamil film Kangalal Kaidhu Sei. In 2006, Priya starred in the Telugu film Pellaina Kothalo, which became a hit and bagged her three films. She is popular for her role as ‘Muthazhagu’ in the Tamil film ‘Paruthiveeran’.
She then acted in films like Yamadonga, Malaikottai, Thirakkatha and Arumugam. Priya made her acting debut in Kannada films in 2009 with the film “Raam” and later made her Bollywood debut with the film “Raavan”. She has also appeared in the Bollywood film “Chennai Express”.

- In 2016, Priya shared the engagement news with fans and well-wishers via Twitter. - In May 2016, Priyamani sparked controversy for her remarks on the rape case. The brutal rape and murder of Geetha, a student of Government Law College in Ernakulam, shocked the country and many celebrities expressed dissatisfaction with the recurrence of such incidents in the country. Priya also shared her pain on Twitter and wrote that India is not a safe place for girls. She even asked the women to leave the country and move to a safe place abroad. Her comments were harshly criticized.
- Priyamani acted in a film titled ‘Engiruntho Vandaal’ but due to some unknown reasons the film never got off the ground. Therefore, the filmmakers did not pay her in full. However, the film was later completed in collaboration with some other artists and some of Priya’s earlier hot stills were included in the film. Upset with the makers’ actions, Priyamani filed a complaint with the Film Artists Association MAA, asking it to intervene and stop the use of her content or pay her in full.
