Progresso Settles Debate Started by Alix Earle After She Ate Cold Soup Straight from the Can

Alix Earle shares followers with her unique soup eating habits.

On Thursday, the TikTok creator and podcaster shared an “extremely hot looking” video, she said. “The other day I was opening soup from a can and only eating it cold. Is that okay?”

In the video, she was holding a can of Progresso soup with a golden spoon in it for sipping.

“I got home from going out last night, just opened this and started eating. And I think it’s really good,” she added.

In the caption, Earle said her friend was “disgusted” by her soup decision. Other fans also disagreed with her love of cold soup, with one commenting: “I can’t get behind this,” while another joked, “maybe…cold?”

Progresso shared a statement with PEOPLE to “set the debate straight.” Brand manager Shannon Heine explained whether or not it’s acceptable to eat cold soup straight from the can,

“Our soups provide high-quality meals with no extra prep or cooking time required, so we can definitely get behind this extremely hot meal — even if it means no kitchen,” Heine said. “Our soups can be enjoyed cold, but whatever temperature you prefer, we agree with Alix that the soup is elite – maybe even the new ‘It Girl’ of the pantry?”

This isn’t Earle’s first divisive food choice. Back in June, the beauty influencer shared a look at her breakfast when she was at home in New Jersey — and her bagel topping combination had followers raving.

“I always get made fun of for my bagel order, but it’s really the best concoction and I don’t care,” Earle said as she introduced her “pork roll with cottage cheese” on an egg patty.

Pork roll, also known as Taylor ham depending on which part of the state you are in, is a New Jersey classic. The Mid-Atlantic delicacy is sliced ham, fried to a crispy texture and usually served with an egg and cheese on a roll.

A recent graduate of the University of Miami, wearing a beige Sporty & Rich baseball cap, she showed off a slice of her breakfast sandwich and noted that she was on the pork roll team, not the Taylor ham.

“That looks gross,” joked one of Earle’s younger sisters.

“The worker at the pastry shop said ‘Who’s the weirdo who ordered this?’ That was me!” said the influencer, diving into her sandwich.

“I usually get a little more cream cheese than this. The cream cheese bothered them a little today,” the New Jersey resident noted. “It’s the best pastry ever.”

Even her younger sister tried a bite and enjoyed it. “Next time you’re in Jersey, get a pork roll with cream cheese,” Earle told the camera. “It will not disappoint.”

Some of Earle’s followers were a little less confident about the combination. “I’ve never even heard of a pork roll ..lol wth” one fan commented, while another wrote: “How can so much go wrong with one bun?” Several other fans agreed, saying they weren’t familiar with the East Coast classic.
