The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall and thunder storm warning for many areas of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on Monday due to Cyclone Michaung. The IMD reported that while some areas of Odisha received light to moderate rain on Monday, cyclonic storm “Michaung” over the Bay of Bengal is still active and is likely to strengthen further into a severe cyclonic storm. The IMD issued a yellow alert on Monday, indicating that these five southern Odisha districts will receive 7 to 11 cm of rain. The warning further states that on December 5, an increase in the intensity of the rain is expected in these areas (orange warning).

Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code has been enforced in coastal areas along the Puducherry coast by the district government due to the impending cyclone ‘Michaung’, which is forecast to hit the west-central Bay of Bengal off the coast of southern Andhra Pradesh and neighboring northern Tamil Nadu. The district administration has restricted the mobility of people in coastal areas near the seashore from December 3 from 7 pm to December 5 from 6 pm to prevent loss of life or property.
