- Puja lost her father Yashpal Sharma on July 13, 2021. He died at the age of 66. His last rites were performed at Lodhi Crematorium, New Delhi. Sharma’s former teammates Madan Lal and Chetan Sharma attended his funeral.
- Puja’s father Yashpal Sharma was an important member of the Indian cricket team that won the 1983 World Cup. He is one of nine cricketers to play in all eight matches of the World Cup. In 2021, a Hindi sports film titled “83” was released, telling the story of India’s improbable victory in the Cricket World Cup in 1983. Yashpal’s role in the film is played by Jatin Sarna.
- Her father was also a member of the national selection committee that selected the Indian team that won the World Cup in 2011.
