Queen guitarist Brian May opens up about his recent health scare.

On Wednesday, September 4, May, 77, revealed that he suffered a “minor stroke” about a week ago while talking about his new documentary Brian May: Badgers, farmers and me in a video posted on YouTube and Instagram.

“The good news is I can play the guitar after the events of the last few days and I’m saying this because there were concerns because that little health hiccup I mentioned happened about a week ago… it was a minor stroke and all of a sudden, out of the blue heaven, I didn’t have any control over this hand, so it was a bit scary,” the musician recalled.

“I have to say I had fantastic care and attention from Frimley hospital I went to, blue lights flashing… lots of it. Very exciting!” he added jokingly, referring to his ambulance ride to a hospital in Surrey, England, where he was treated.

May insisted he “didn’t want to say anything at the time” because he didn’t “want sympathy”.

“Please don’t do that because it’s going to clutter up my inbox and I hate it,” added “The Show Must Go On” hitmaker, telling fans the “good news” is that he’s “okay.”

Sharing an update on her recovery, May said she’s “just doing what I’m told, which is nothing really.”

“I’m punished, I can’t go out – well, I can’t drive, I can’t get on a plane, I can’t beat my heart too high, I can’t fly over planes, which will stress me out. But I’m fine,” he explained as the plane flew overhead .

May has endured several health scares in the past, including recovering from a heart attack in May 2020, which came after he tore his gluteus maximus muscle while gardening, as he previously revealed in an Instagram video.

“I couldn’t believe the pain,” the songwriter said at the time. “I ended up having another MRI, but this time I had an MRI of the lower spine, and of course … I had a compressed sciatic nerve — pretty badly compressed — and that’s why it felt like someone was putting a screwdriver in my back.”

He revealed that he had a “small heart attack” in the process of being treated for back pain, although he is considered “healthy”.

“It wasn’t anything that hurt me. It was about 40 minutes of chest pain and tightness and that feeling in my hands and sweating,” he explained.

May, who also revealed he underwent “minor eye surgery” in May 2021, said Good morning Britain in October 2020 that he nearly died from “shocking” complications from the heart attack medication he was on.

“The worst thing that happened was bleeding in my stomach and I lost a lot of blood. I was wiped out, I couldn’t cross the floor,” he said at the time.
