Quincy Jones Died of Pancreatic Cancer, Death Certificate Shows

Quincy Jones’ cause of death has been revealed.

The legendary music producer died of pancreatic cancer, according to his death certificate obtained by PEOPLE. The news was first reported by TMZ.

A representative for Jones did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

The star died on November 3 at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 91.

“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of the passing of our father and brother, Quincy Jones,” his family said in a statement. “And while this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life he lived and know there will never be another like him.”

Jones was buried in a private funeral in Los Angeles attended by close family members, the Associated Press reports. A second, larger ceremony is planned to be attended by members of the public.

In a statement to the news outlet, his family said the memorial was an “intimate ceremony” that included his seven children, a brother, two sisters and close family members.

The family told the AP they were “extremely grateful for the expressions of sympathy and tributes from his friends and fans around the world,” adding that “details about commemorating Mr. Jones’ life will be announced at a later date.”

He is survived by seven children: Jolie (71), Rachel (61), Martina (58), Quincy III (56), Kidada (50), Rashida (48) and Kenya (31).

Actress Rashida paid tribute to her late dad in an emotional Instagram post four days after his death, describing him as a “diva”. Icon. A culture changer. Genius.”

“I was lucky enough to experience this love in the immediate vicinity,” she wrote. “I will miss his hugs and kisses and his unconditional loyalty and advice. Dad, it’s an honor to be your daughter. Your love lives forever.”
