Madhavan Balaji Ranganathan, better known as R. Madhavan, is an Indian actor, writer, television host and film producer.

R. Madhavan was born on Monday, June 1, 1970, in Jamshedpur, Bihar (now Jharkhand) (age 52; as of 2022). His zodiac sign is Gemini. He was educated at DBMS English School in Jamshedpur and then went to Rajaram College in Kolhapur, Maharashtra for his bachelor’s degree. in the field of electronics.
Initially, he wanted to join the Indian Army, and while in college, he actively participated in extracurricular military training.
At the age of 22, he was recognized as one of the best NCC cadets in Maharashtra and won a trip to the UK along with seven other cadets. There he received training with the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force. However, he was unable to join the program as he was over the six-month age limit.
Later, Madhavan returned to India and started teaching public speaking and personality development skills at a seminar in Kolhapur. He then attended Kishinchand Chellaram College in Mumbai to pursue a master’s degree in public speaking. While completing his postgraduate studies, Madhavan had the opportunity to represent India at the 1992 Young Businessmen’s Conference in Tokyo, Japan. At the same time, he created his own portfolio for a modeling agency.

Madhavan first met Sarita Birje in 1991, when he was teaching communication skills to students at a public speaking seminar in Mumbai. The two started dating after completing Sarita’s course and tied the knot in 1999. The couple has a son Vedaant.
His son Vedaant is a swimmer and has won medals in various national and international events. In July 2022, he broke the national youth record in the 1,500-meter freestyle at the National Youth Swimming Competition.

Profession
Madhavan started his modeling career in 1996. His first modeling assignment was for a talcum powder advertisement for which he was paid Rs. 100. Next, he made brief appearances in TV serials like A Christmas Love Story, Banegi Apni Baat and Ghar Jamai.
He later gained recognition in the Tamil film industry with Mani Ratnam’s Alaipayuthey (2000). He later had notable roles in Minnale and Dumm Dumm Dumm. In 2002, he achieved commercial success with the action film “Run”. He starred opposite Kamal Haasan in “Ambhay Sivam” and won two Best Supporting Actor awards. In 2004, he played the villain in the Tamil film Aayutha Ezhuthu. The film won him his first Filmfare Award.
Madhavan made her Bollywood debut in 2001 with the film Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein. He next had supporting roles in three highly successful films, Rang De Basanti (2006), Guru (2007) and 3 Idiots (2009).
In 2011, he played the lead role in the romantic comedy “Tanu Marries Manu”. The film was a box office hit and his performance was critically acclaimed. He then took a break from acting and returned to the big screen after a three-year break. In 2015, he played the role of Manoj ‘Manu’ Sharma in Tanu Weds Manu Returns.
