He completed his studies at Shri Guru Nanak Khalsa Inter College in Jhansi. As a teenager he was interested in writing skits and stories. However, his parents wanted him to pursue a career in engineering, so he moved to Derry in 2003 to further his studies. While living in Delhi, he started working as a salesman selling cookbooks of renowned chef Sanjeev Kapoor.

His first film as a dialogue writer was 2015’s Welcome Back. His feature debut as a script and story writer was 2016’s Freaky Ali. In 2017, he wrote the screenplay and dialogue for Sanjay Dutt’s post-prison comeback film, Bhoomi. prison. In 2022, he made his debut as a story writer and producer on the OTT web series “Muniz’s Big Wedding”.

Online feud with Swara Bhaskar
On January 7, 2020, Raaj Shaandilyaa tweeted that people should not pay attention to cheap tricks and that Dainik Bhaskar cost more than Swara Bhaskar. Replying to him, Swara Bhaskar tweeted that Raj should also think about his cheap antics before sending films for promotions or asking her for any roles. Raj later apologized to her and said she should have thought about the country or its people before talking about anyone. He later stated that he would be happy to have her act as he had no problem with her acting skills.

plagiarism allegations
In July 2022, ahead of the release of his film Janhit Mei Jaari, screenwriters Jitendra Gyanchandani and Gautam Prasad Shaw accused Raaj of plagiarizing their story in his film. Gautam claimed that he pitched the film to Raaj in June 2020 and Raaj announced his film in November 2022. They complained about him to the Writers Guild and the Versove Police Department. Raj responded to the accusations by calling them baseless and said he had registered the story before the writing duo back in 2017.
