Rachael Ray Says She's 'Wildly Lucky' to Have Her Husband John Cusimano: 'He Understands I Need My Space'

Rachael Ray and her husband John Cusimano are a perfect match.

In the second episode of her new podcast, I’ll sleep when I’m dead Ray, 56, praised her husband while talking to guest Billy Crudup about her own relationship with wife Naomi Watts.

“I’m very wildly, wildly, wildly happy to have my husband,” Ray said of Cusiman. “But he understands that I need my space. He needs his space.”

Ray and Cusimano, a musician and a lawyer, married in Italy in 2005. They renewed their vows 10 years later in the same Tuscan castle where they said “I do” for the first time.

In her podcast, Ray asked Crudup, 56, “You two are extremely successful actors. How do you solve it? Do you review and examine the material on it when you’re studying a section and vice versa, or do you just, like, stay in separate corners?”

“John and I mostly stay in separate corners,” Ray added.

The Morning show star, who began dating Watts in 2017 before tying the knot in 2023, responded that the unpredictability of creative work “isn’t for everyone.”

“That lack of predictability and a bit of carnival life and a bit of rock and roll can sometimes be debilitating to the point where you don’t take care of yourself properly,” he said. “The fact is, if you want to be a part of this, you have to surround yourself with enough people who can promote you, encourage the way you do it, and help protect you. And that’s a lot to ask.”

He continued: “The fact is that Naomi and I have been around for a while, so we have a certain level of appreciation about how to help each other manage. And we’re both really interested in acting, so we talk about things.”

Ray previously shared the unconventional way she handles arguments with Cusiman.

“It’s very difficult, especially for horny, creative or loud people who can just calm it down,” host Jenny Mollen said in the first episode I’ll sleep when I’m dead. “John and I never calm it down. We have fierce matches all the time, but I think that’s healthy. I really want to. And I don’t trust people who are too quiet.”

“Too quiet drives me crazy,” Ray said. “I’d rather you tell me what you mean when you mean it and get it all out there.”

Ray told Mollen that they “never apologize to each other.”

“I end up patting his ass or he kisses me on the head, and that’s kind of it,” she joked. “It’s an excuse. It’s just kind of understandable. ‘I still like your ass.’ ‘I still like your head.’ He’s kind of in that zone.”
